Evaluating the Basebal Season So Far on Memorial Day

Evaluating the Basebal Season So Far on Memorial Day

Generally speaking, being in first place on Memorial Day is a good sign of things to come. Memorial Day typically marks the one-third mark for the Major League Baseball season, and by this point you have a pretty good idea of which teams are going to be in the running and which teams are dead and buried.

For instance, it’s fairly common knowledge on May 29 that the Royals aren’t going to be challenging for the AL Central crown at 11-37, 22 1/2 games behind the 35-16 Tigers. Of course, we probably knew that the Royals wouldn’t be contenders entering the season anyway, but now we’re certain of it.

At the same time, there aren’t many people outside of the Dallas-Fort Worth region who expected the Rangers to be in first place come Memorial Day, and I’d be willing to bet that even some of the more loyal Rangers fans would have to be honest with themselves before claiming that they saw it coming.

How good of an indicator of future success is

Motor Home Adventures in The Adirondack Mountains

The Adirondacks in upstate New York was one of the first wild preserves set aside and protected in the United States. It is more than 6 million acres of woods, lakes, ponds, and includes the majestic mountains themselves. It is an all around great motor home vacation.

Most people don’t know how big the Adirondack Mountains are. The area stretches over 6 million acres, which makes it bigger than the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Yosemite and the Great Smoky Mountains preserves combined. This includes thousands of lakes and ponds for fishing, as well as more than 2,000 miles of hiking trails, winding through the terrain of rugged mountains and deep woodlands.

But, most spectacular of all are the mountains themselves. The Adirondacks are not actually a mountain range, but a collection of single peaks. These 46 mountains that give the area its special character are known as “the 46,” and most of the area’s attractions center around these

Yorktown Virginia: A Sleepy Tobacco town Achieves Notoriety

The York River is one of the four primary rivers in Virginia. Because of the natural depth of the river, it is a strategic waterway for amassing troops and supplies. During the Revolutionary War, the British held both New York City and Charleston, SC. They wanted another foothold. Yorktown, a sleepy tobacco port on the York River, was chosen. Lord Cornwallis, an excellent General, was chosen to reinforce this area.

He controlled both sides of the River and built a series of Earthworks to defend his position by land. The majestic British Navy controlled the River and Bay. What he did not realize is that the French became allies with the revolutionaries. This was his downfall. The French Navy fought the British Navy to a stalemate at the Battle of the Capes. By luck of position, the French Navy retreated into the River, while the British had to return to NYC for repairs. Cornwallis also expected some 5,000 additional men to reinforce his 8,300 seasoned

Back from the dead!

After being shut-out in their last two of three games and only scoring one goal for over those outings, the Rangers let out a release Sunday night totaling six.

Period one had the looks of another dreadful skate as the Canadians left the first twenty minutes of play up two zip on goals by Cammalleri and Brian Gionta.

It would only take :57-seconds into period two of play for the Rangers to get their legs moving and Mr. Heart and Soul Ryan Callahan would get the Blue shirts within one on a tip-in goal.

The Rangers special teams on the penalty kill would be responsible for their next tally as Callahan would feed Brandon Dubinsky on the shorthand to even the score.

Just 2:36 later the Rangers would have their first lead of the night as Duby’s second tally would put his team up for good as he released a blast.

The Rangers would take a 3-2 lead into the third in an important Eastern Conference battle.

Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome’s Golden Anniversary

As the sun pinnacled at its noon trajectory on Saturday, July 11, 2009, so, too, did Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome.  The staff, having already arrived at 0900, had prepared this pocket of history for its pioneer aircraft air show, and the parking lot, across Norton Road, had deposited an increasingly larger crowd through the covered, wooden footbridge, providing pulse to the heart which one man had first infused with air in his life-long project to recreate this era of aviation.

A line of aircraft, mostly frail biplanes sporting bracing wires and exposed, uncowled engines, had been nosed into the boundary fence on the grass airfield.

Today, however, had seemed a little different from the countless others which had begun this way, because it could trace its origin to the first one, 50 years ago. Today had marked the half-century anniversary of the aerodrome.

As seen on the Puck Daddy blog!

London Museums and Art Galleries with Free Entry

My family tree has been traced back to the early Kings of England from the 7th Century AD. This has given me an interest in English History which is great fun to research. I am a direct descendent of Sir Christopher Wren and have many ancestors from London. People from outside England believe that London is an expensive place to visit. This is a fallacy. London’s 240 major museums and art galleries offer free admission. Here’s a list of the best of the big names you can visit for free all year round. There are lots of free museums and galleries in London, from the large-scale to the single room type. This list also focuses on the best of the small free London museums that are certainly worth a visit.

The Bank of England Museum tells the story of the Bank of England from its foundation in 1694 to its role today as the United Kingdom’s central bank.
